Local Trails

Marrington Plantation

This is our longest local trail system that consists of roughly 19 miles of trails that are good for all levels of riders. The most popular loop is the entire red loop with the Amazon trail which comes out to about 13 miles. This is a great loop for beginners with smooth open flowing trails and only a few 2-3 foot drops that you can choose to ride around. This loop can also be cut short at various spots if you are looking for a shorter ride. Any yellow markers that you see off of this trail are advanced sections that only last for a short period of time then dumps you back out onto the red trail so you get to choose a challenging line or the easier route. The orange trail (Foster’s Creek) is a 6-mile loop that is more advanced with a lot of roots, rocks, and twisty turns. Get ready to go a lot slower on this loop as the obstacles require a lot of power and concentration to navigate the trail.

Wannamaker North Trail

This trail system is located just 10 minutes from Marrington Plantation and offers a more challenging twisty terrain then the red loop at Marrington but with less roots and rocks then Foster’s creek. All trail loops out of the main trail head are suitable for all levels of riders with the exception of the Ridge Line. This is a long set of rollers that is a favorite to many patrons, you can see local XC mountain racer Brad Phillips crushing this section below. The orange loop is a remote trail loop about 1 mile from the trail head. You can locate this by looking at the trail map at the trail head. This section doesn’t get ridden as much as the rest of the trail due to its super twisty, windy terrain. It is only about a 3.5 mile trail but it feels a lot longer due to all the turns. *BONUS pump track- the newest addition to Wannamaker North Trail is a short pump track right next to the trail head which is a great way to warm up/cool down before and after a ride. And just a great way to fine tune your bike skills. We hope to see more stuff like this coming here in the future!

Biggin Creek Bike Trail Moncks Corner

A fun 4.8 mile loop that rides well in either direction (direction changes daily). The trails are well-marked and divide into three major sections. The lower, which follows along the creek bed winding up and down steep climbs, the upper/ridge section, which is fast and flowy with less steep up and downs, and finally there is the inner section where the trail wraps back in on itself along relatively level terrain.

There are additional off-shoot loops marked with skulls that are fairly technical descents and climbs.

Poinsett State Park

Known as the mountains of the mid-lands, Poinsett State Park has brought us some of the smoothest and flowest XC single-track in the state. Affordabike is a proud sponsor of “The Knot Race” that is put on here at the beginning of the XC race season every year and it proves to be one of the fastest courses in The Southern Classic Mountain Bike Race Series. Poinsett State Park offers 3 main trails that can be connected together to create one big 11 mile loop. The Knot trail (3.5 miles) is the most challenging of the three featuring some very steep punch climbs and really fun short descents. The Whippoorwill trail (6 miles) is a super fun XC style trail with a lot of reward for not very much climbing. The newest trail (Cowasee Trail) is shorter with just about 1.5 miles but you will slow down as you come across turn after turn. The rangers at this park are very helpful and friendly and they have trail maps in the office. They also have lodging and camping available.

Harbison State Forest

Harbison has a variety of trail difficulties with an easy 10-mile loop that has some more difficult loops that you can take off of if you are looking for more of a challenge. Spider women is a 3.5 mile trail that is made up of a bunch of rock gardens and should only be attempted by confident/experienced riders. Be sure to bring $5 and pick up a parking pass in the main parking lot.

FATS/Forks Area Trail System

This is known as one of the best designed trail systems in the Southeast with rollers for days! There is some really fun flowy downhills and the climbs seem effortless as you get a break after every roller you conquer. This trail is a must ride for any level of mountain biker (fun for all!).

Dupont State Forest

Some of the best trails on the East Coast with difficulty levels to suite all mountains bikers but with a large majority of smooth flowing well-built trails. It is recommended to stop in to a bike shop in Brevard, NC (The Hub/Sycamore Cycles) and they can help you out with a route that will best suite your skill set and desired mileage. No camping is allowed in Dupont so you have to go up to Pisgah National Forest to find a campsite.

Pisgah National Forest

Features 100s of miles of rugged natural trails that should only be attempted by experienced riders. A training ground for some of the most hardcore mountain racers in the country, it is preferred terrain over much of the Rocky Mountain trails out west for many of these guys. You can go on bike-packing trips for days through Pisgah or you can stop off to one of the shops in Brevard and get a quick loop mapped out that you can manage in an afternoon. One of our shops favorite loops is the Black Mountain loop located about a ½-mile behind The Hub. You can park at the bottom of the mountain then climb for roughly 5 miles followed by a gut wrenching downhill to your car! Another great loop that can be ridden from this same parking lot is the Sycamore loop which doesn’t involve as much climbing but is very entertaining.
